This is not a cable issue.I would not hesitate to use this vendor again. I have not had issues with either. The time from placing the order to it being in transit was fast.I used this cable with an older Keyspan USB serial adapter on a Mac OS X 10.4.11 and with Levono laptop with a different USB-serial dongle. Just use a little care with the rubber flap. I bought this to use with my Garmin Geko 201 to update the firmware. I ordered the cable and received it in short order. The earlier comments on the the friction fitting part on the Garmin are accurate.
The cable shipped promptly and arrived in good order. Worked as designed with little unnecessary setup.
No direcions, but I had it working in about ten minutes. Just make sure you have a older computer to use with a serial port, or you have to buy a cable to fit to this one that plugs into a hsb port. I bought this to go with my Garmin E-Trax H that I bought at Amazon. I can download my waypoints very easily.
Had no problems using this on my macbook with geocaching.com using a generic USB to Serial adapter. Cable is high quality, fit is snug with my eTrex Summit.
I heartily recommend this cable. New firmware work good. Me move new firmware from computer to eTrex. I'm not worried about it falling apart. In the spirit of another review I read on Amazon recently, I'm going to make this as succinct as possible:"Me buy this cable. Me plug cable into computer and eTrex. Me happy."It's cheap but of good quality.
